Offering healing and hope for children in crisis through Christ centered training and resources

Crisis Care Training International

Trauma informed care is vital for those working among the world’s hurting children today. Of the 2.2 billion children in the world, an estimated two-thirds are at risk or in crisis due to abandonment, neglect, abuse, and exploitation. Unfortunately, those who work with children in crisis often feel ill-equipped to help children with their traumatic experiences.

In 2004, Crisis Care Training International (CCTI) was birthed by Dr.  Phyllis Kilbourn in response to a cry for help – caregivers, practitioners and church leaders expressed their heartbreak over the many traumatized children in their midst and said that they felt powerless to help them.  They also expressed their concern that these children were not in a place to receive the hope of God because they had no concept of a heavenly Father.

Who we are

The trainers of CCTI bring decades of experience personally working with children in crisis throughout the world. We have facilitated trauma training in over 20 countries. Our training is always adapted to cultural context and your individual and organizational needs.

What we do

CCTI trains caregivers, practitioners and church leaders. We train non-clinical personnel, educators, government workers and members of aid organizations. CCTI provides accessible, entry-level trauma care training for those who have ongoing contact with children at risk and children in crisis.

We believe that it is imperative for anyone working with at-risk children and in crisis to understand the traumatic experiences of children, and the resulting impact of trauma, in order to stop the cycle of violence, bringing restoration, freedom and hope.

Children at Risk are children who lack the basic necessities (food, shelter, parental support, education, clothing) for a “normal” childhood development. “Physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively and spiritually”

Children in Crisis are children whose basic needs are not met and are desperate to meet those needs. Children are vulnerable to being exploited. When they are exploited, they are in crisis.

"Children and youth today are surrounded by many traumatic experiences that extend far beyond the normal childhood grief of losing a grandparent or a favorite pet. Abuse, parental neglect, poverty, abandonment, drug addiction, sexual exploitation and many other experiences have forever changed the landscape of childhood for millions of children and youth."

Testimonials

“The trainer (for my on-line course) did an amazing job and I felt extremely supported whilst finding the course really interesting and beneficial.”

Alexis
Middle East missionary

“From my completion of the on-line training course of Module 1, I gained a lot of insight about trauma and its effects on children (behavior, emotions, the grief process, etc.) as well as ways to actively listen to and ways to create a safe space for children”

Jaimee
Social Worker, USA

“When teaching Module 1, there is usually resounding agreement between all the participants on how much it has helped them personally. There have been several times when participants said that during the intercessory prayer time at the end of the conference they were able to forgive and receive forgiveness for things that have been bondages in their lives. In one instance, a woman said “I feel free for the first time in years.” Another time a person expressed that they felt they could finally turn the page and go on with their life in a new way because Jesus had met them in the prayer time.”

Our Commission

"The Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners... to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve... to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair."

Isaiah 61:1-3 NIV
